Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado says Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro will inevitably lose power. She rejected fears that his removal would cause a civil war like Syria's.
Machado spoke to reporters in Oslo, Norway, two days after receiving the award. She escaped Venezuela by boat with the help of a U.S. special forces veteran, a journey she called "dangerous and scary."
The opposition leader stated that Venezuela is nearing a major political change. Her comments come as the United States increases its efforts to remove Maduro from office.
Machado insisted it is not too late for Maduro to hand over power peacefully. She called the country's transition to democracy "irreversible."
