Swiss singer Nemo, who won the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest, has returned their trophy. The act is a protest against Israel being allowed to compete in next year's event.
Nemo announced the decision on Thursday. They stated that allowing Israel to participate contradicts Eurovision's stated values of inclusion and dignity. This comes during the ongoing war in Gaza.
The singer's protest adds to growing criticism of the contest. Several countries have already pulled out of next year's Eurovision over the same issue.
Nemo uses they/them pronouns and is the first non-binary winner in Eurovision history.
