Indonesia is using a regional forestry forum to promote the creation of a World Mangrove Center, or WMC. The country is positioning the center as a global platform for collaboration on mangrove conservation and restoration. The proposal was presented at the ASEAN forestry forum, where Indonesia seeks international support for the initiative. Mangroves are coastal trees that protect shorelines and store large amounts of carbon. Indonesia has the largest mangrove area in the world, but rapid deforestation remains a major challenge.
