UNESCO Adds 25 New Sites to World Heritage List

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has added 25 new properties to its World Heritage List. The sites, located across 18 countries, include natural wonders and cultural landmarks. New additions range from ancient ruins to modern architectural achievements. UNESCO designates these sites as having "outstanding universal value," meaning they are important for all of humanity. The list now includes over 1,100 properties worldwide. Among the new entries is a medieval trading center in Africa and a chain of volcanic islands in the Pacific. Each site must meet strict criteria for preservation and significance. The designation helps protect these locations and can boost local tourism. UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee approved the additions during its annual meeting.
