Mangrove Loss Threatens Fish Supply, Minister Warns

Indonesia’s fisheries minister has warned that failing to restore mangrove forests will hurt the country’s fish catch. Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said mangrove rehabilitation is essential to maintain the productivity of fisheries. Mangroves serve as nurseries for fish and shrimp, providing food and shelter for young marine life. Without healthy mangroves, fish populations decline, threatening the livelihoods of millions of fishermen and the nation’s food supply. The minister urged faster action to replant and protect these coastal ecosystems.
