UNESCO Adds Dog Breeding, Yodeling to Global Heritage List

UNESCO has updated its list of the world's most important cultural traditions. The list now includes practices from Switzerland, Turkmenistan, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, and Saudi Arabia. The new entries were chosen at a meeting in Delhi, India. They aim to protect knowledge and skills passed between generations. The list now features Swiss yodeling and the breeding of the Turkmen Alabay dog. It also includes Neapolitan pizza-making, the crafting of Kyrgyz yurts, and Al Sadu, a traditional weaving technique from Saudi Arabia. UNESCO's list does not give legal protection. Instead, it recognizes these traditions as vital parts of human culture that need to be saved for the future.
