In a rare show of agreement, the U.S. House of Representatives decisively voted against an effort to impeach former President Donald Trump.
The resolution, introduced by Democratic Representative Al Green, was defeated in a bipartisan vote on Wednesday. A significant group of 23 Democrats joined nearly all Republicans to stop the measure from moving forward.
The vote demonstrates the current limited political appetite among many lawmakers for what is seen as a largely symbolic gesture. With Republicans controlling the House, the impeachment article had no chance of success.
Representative Green has pushed for impeachment against Trump multiple times, citing the former president's actions related to the January 6 Capitol riot. This latest attempt was quickly dismissed by a coalition of both parties.
