Thailand's Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, has taken steps to dissolve the country's parliament. This action sets the stage for an early national election.
The move follows reports that a key political party supporting his minority government plans to withdraw its support. A minority government does not hold more than half of the parliamentary seats.
On Thursday, Anutin stated on social media that he was acting to "return power to the people." Several Thai media outlets confirm he has already submitted a formal recommendation to dissolve the House of Representatives. This recommendation now requires royal endorsement.
The dissolution will officially trigger an election process, allowing Thai citizens to vote for a new government.
