The European Union has declared a recent attack on a hospital in Myanmar a clear violation of international humanitarian law.
A spokesperson for the EU Commission issued a strong statement following the incident. "Civilians, the wounded, and medical staff must be protected in all circumstances," the spokesperson said.
International humanitarian law, also known as the laws of war, grants special protection to medical facilities and personnel. Attacking them is strictly forbidden.
The statement did not specify which group was responsible for the attack. It also did not provide details on the location of the hospital or any casualties.
The EU's condemnation adds to growing international concern over the ongoing conflict in Myanmar.
