Thousands of young protesters flooded the streets of Delhi for a fourth day, as India’s “cockroach” protest movement showed no signs of slowing down. The unprecedented demonstration targets Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, led by the Cockroach Janta party.
The Guardian’s south Asia correspondent, Hannah Ellis-Petersen, reported from the ground, where many protesters traveled hundreds of miles to join the crowds. The movement initially demanded accountability for recent leaks of exam papers and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
But the mood has shifted. For many, the protest has grown beyond a single issue. It now represents a turning point for India’s youth—more than 600 million strong—who are finding their political voice.
