El Salvador has launched a plan to provide artificial intelligence (AI) tutoring to every public school student in the country. The government is partnering with Elon Musk's company, xAI, to make it happen.
The two-year national program will put xAI's "Grok" chatbot into over 5,000 schools. The goal is to offer personalized learning help to more than one million students.
Grok is a type of AI known as a large language model. It understands and generates human-like text. In the classroom, it will act as a digital tutor. It can answer student questions and explain complex subjects in simple ways.
This is the first time a country has announced a plan to use one company's AI model in all its public schools. The move aims to close educational gaps in El Salvador. Students in remote areas will get the same AI access as those in cities.
The program will train teachers on how to use Grok as a teaching tool. School computers and internet networks will also be upgraded to support the AI system.
If successful, the project could change how entire nations use technology in education. Officials say they will watch the program's impact on student performance closely.
