U.S. forces have seized a large oil tanker near Venezuela's coast. President Donald Trump announced the move on Wednesday.
It is the latest action in the U.S. pressure campaign against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. The U.S. and many other nations do not recognize Maduro as Venezuela's legitimate leader.
Venezuela's foreign ministry strongly condemned the seizure. Officials labeled it "blatant theft" and an act of "piracy."
The incident further escalates tensions between the two countries. The U.S. has imposed severe sanctions on Venezuela's vital oil industry to try to force a political change.
