Syrian Economy Minister Mohammad Nidal al-Shaar has called the repeal of the U.S. "Caesar Act" a historic step for his country.
In a statement on December 11, al-Shaar said lifting these sanctions removes one of the largest obstacles facing Syria's economy. He stated this action will open the door for new investment and international support for reconstruction.
The Caesar Act is a U.S. law that imposed severe economic sanctions on Syria. It targeted the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
