Analysts say China's drive to build its own semiconductor industry will continue, whether or not it allows companies to buy Nvidia's latest artificial intelligence (AI) chips.
This follows a U.S. announcement that Nvidia can sell its H200 AI processors to approved customers in China. The condition is that 25% of the sale price must be paid to the United States.
Beijing has not yet said if it will approve any purchases. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been the only government department to comment so far.
Experts view the potential chip sales as a short-term solution for Chinese AI firms. They state that China's long-term strategy of achieving self-reliance in chip manufacturing remains unchanged.
