Syria signed two memorandums of understanding with Iraq and a group of international companies on Tuesday. The agreements aim to rehabilitate and restart the Kirkuk-Banias crude oil pipeline.
The meetings took place in the United States. This step is part of a strategic effort to revive one of the region’s most important oil transport links. The pipeline would carry oil from Iraq’s Kirkuk fields to Syria’s Banias port on the Mediterranean Sea.
The deal seeks to boost energy cooperation between the two countries. It also aims to strengthen regional oil transit infrastructure. No timeline for the pipeline’s reactivation was announced.
