Gianni Infantino has secured formal endorsement from more than 200 of Fifa’s 211 member associations for re-election as president, despite ongoing unrest over the Folarin Balogun suspension controversy.
The Guardian understands only a handful of associations have yet to send letters of support. Infantino is on track to win a fourth term by a landslide at the March congress.
A small number of European associations remain outliers. Germany is the highest-profile national federation that has not yet provided official backing. Uefa has also made its opposition clear on several issues.
