LONDON — A man who threatened to shoot Reform UK party leader Nigel Farage on social media has been arrested, London police said Wednesday. The arrest comes amid rising concerns over the safety of British politicians.
The Metropolitan Police stated that the man was taken into custody on Tuesday on suspicion of sending threatening communications to a member of parliament. “I am going to shoot you in the head if you win,” the suspect allegedly told Farage in a social media message sent in May.
The threat follows the recent killing of Ann Widdecombe, a former member of parliament, which has intensified fears about political security in the United Kingdom. Police have not released further details about the suspect or the investigation.
