As Islamist militant groups make unprecedented gains across Africa’s Sahel region, military junta leaders are cracking down on independent voices instead of changing their security strategies, according to a new report.
The findings, released by the Africa Center for Strategic Studies (ACSS), show that security is rapidly deteriorating. Yet the ruling juntas in countries like Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger have focused on restricting journalists, activists, and opposition figures rather than adapting their military tactics.
