Tinubu Orders Police Away from VIPs, Tells Aides to Enforce It

President Bola Tinubu has ordered his top security officials to ensure all police officers assigned to protect private individuals are withdrawn. The directive, first issued in 2023, removes police bodyguards from businessmen, politicians, and other prominent figures not officially entitled to government protection. Tinubu has now told the National Security Adviser, the Minister of Police Affairs, and the Inspector-General of Police to fully implement the order. The move aims to redeploy thousands of officers to regular police duties. Officials say this will improve public security for all citizens. There will be "no going back" on the plan, the president stated. The security chiefs must follow up and enforce the withdrawal.
