Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has arrived in Oslo, Norway. Her appearance comes after a months-long secret journey to escape Venezuela.
Machado secretly defied a government travel ban to leave the country. She was unable to travel in time to personally accept the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded to her and other global rights activists in October.
The prize recognized her non-violent struggle for democracy and human rights. She is a leading critic of President Nicolás Maduro's government.
Machado stated she is now safe and will use her platform to continue advocating for free elections in Venezuela.
