A drone attack set fire to a major Russian oil refinery in Syzran, a city about 800 kilometers from the war zone in Ukraine. The strike hit two crude distillation units—which separate crude oil into different products—and a gasoline reformer at the plant, according to analysts tracking the damage.
The Syzran refinery processes up to 8.9 million tons of oil annually. The attack marks another hit on Russia’s energy infrastructure far from the front lines, with analysts counting each primary unit destroyed as a significant blow to the country's fuel production capacity.
