Almería fire stabilized, death toll rises to 13
A wildfire in the Spanish province of Almería has been stabilized after burning more than 7,000 hectares. The fire affected the municipalities of Los Gallardos, Bédar, and Antas. Regional president Juan Manuel Moreno said the fire is "perimetered and contained." This allows authorities to begin the "gradual return" of the 1,000 people who remained evacuated. However, a tragic confirmation came early in the evening. A 93-year-old British woman died in the intensive care unit. Her death brings the total number of fatalities from the fire to 13. Moreno said this afternoon that he has the "certain confidence" that no more deaths will be found. Eight people have been injured, four of them seriously and admitted to the specialized unit of the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville. The Integrated Data Center (CID) maintains the official number of missing persons at eight after receiving a new report.
