US Democratic lawmaker Ro Khanna said he was detained by Israeli settlers armed with US-made M4 rifles during a visit to the West Bank this week. He described the incident as an unfiltered look at the human toll of the Israeli occupation, as he considers a possible 2028 presidential run.
Speaking with reporters on Thursday in a Palestinian village, Khanna said his group’s van was surrounded by settlers a day earlier while touring a part of the southern West Bank. He noted that residents in the area face frequent attacks from settlers.
Khanna, a congressman from California, said the settlers held the group for a short time before releasing them. The incident highlights ongoing tensions in the region, where violence between settlers and Palestinians has increased in recent years.
