Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced to the Bundestag on Wednesday that Germany has agreed to purchase US Tomahawk cruise missiles. The missiles will be stationed on German soil.
Merz said the deal closes an "important strategic gap in our defense." The agreement was finalized at a recent NATO summit.
Tomahawk missiles are long-range, precision-guided weapons typically launched from ships or submarines. Stationing them in Germany marks a significant shift in the country's defense posture.
