The U.S. military carried out a series of major attacks against Iran on Tuesday evening, according to a statement from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) on social media platform X.
The strikes are a direct response to Iran's alleged attack on three civilian commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The goal of the operation is to impose significant costs on Iran for its actions.
CENTCOM stated that Iran's behavior is dangerous, unjustified, and a clear violation of the ceasefire.
Iranian media report explosions near Qeshm Island and the port cities of Sirik and Bandar Abbas in southern Iran. In Sirik, six projectiles hit a port facility, according to Iranian media, as reported by news agency NTB.
The extent of damage from the latest strikes is not yet known.
