The United States military has confirmed it launched a new attack on Iran. The goal is to further weaken Iran’s “ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” according to a statement from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) on X. Explosions were heard in the Iranian port cities of Sirik and Bandar Abbas, reported Iran’s Mizan news agency. The agency said air defenses were activated against “hostile targets” near Bandar Abbas. “The latest U.S. actions will not go unanswered,” said Iran’s deputy foreign minister, according to state media cited by Reuters. At a NATO summit in Ankara on Wednesday, President Donald Trump threatened that new, harsh U.S. attacks against Iran would likely come Wednesday evening.
