U.S. Sanctions Network for Sending Colombian Fighters to Sudan War

The United States has imposed sanctions on a group it says is recruiting Colombian mercenaries to fight in Sudan's civil war. In an announcement on Tuesday, the U.S. Treasury Department targeted a network of four companies and four individuals. Officials stated the operation is primarily based in Colombia. The U.S. alleges this network actively recruits experienced former Colombian soldiers. These fighters are then sent to join the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group engaged in a prolonged conflict against Sudan's national army. Sanctions freeze the group's U.S.-linked assets and prohibit Americans from dealing with them. The action aims to disrupt the flow of foreign fighters and funding to the war, which has caused a major humanitarian crisis. A Treasury official stated that the recruitment of mercenaries "fuels the ongoing conflict" and extends the suffering of the Sudanese people.
