More than 17 million people across nine conflict-hit states in northern Nigeria are facing severe hunger. The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) issued the warning, stating that violence and funding cuts have driven food insecurity to its worst level in nearly ten years. Stripped of their livelihoods, many people are fleeing across the border into neighboring Benin.
