DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A cargo ship reported being attacked by unknown armed assailants on Sunday off the coast of Yemen in the Red Sea, according to the British military.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center (UKMTO) said the ship alerted authorities to the attack. Officials are investigating, the UKMTO added.
No group immediately claimed responsibility. Yemen’s Houthi rebels have recently threatened to resume attacks on ships, though they have not yet carried out any.
Separately, Somali pirates have been active in the nearby Gulf of Aden.
