A Turkish association for freedom of expression says authorities have blocked more than 20 accounts on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. The bans were imposed just before a major NATO summit.
The Freedom of Expression Association (İfade Özgürlüğü Derneği) announced the restrictions. It said the accounts belong to journalists and campaign-related profiles. The government cited “national security” and “public order” as reasons for the blocks.
Critics argue the move silences dissent ahead of the high-profile international meeting. The association has called for an immediate end to the detentions and bans. No official statement from Turkish authorities has been released yet.
