The United Nations on Friday warned of a "human rights catastrophe" in Sudan's El-Obeid, where the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) may be about to launch an attack. UN rights chief Volker Turk said civilians in the city have endured "siege-like conditions" for the past 18 months. The alert raises fears of a major escalation in the country's ongoing conflict.
