The Forestry Ministry is urging businesses to take a bigger role in protecting wildlife. Officials say corporate support is essential for conservation efforts to succeed.
“We hope companies will join hands with non-governmental organizations and local communities,” a ministry spokesperson stated. The call comes as Indonesia faces growing threats to its unique animals and forests.
Many species, including orangutans, elephants, and rhinos, are at risk due to habitat loss and poaching. The ministry believes private sector funding and expertise can make a real difference.
Several firms have already started programs to protect endangered animals. But the ministry wants more businesses to see conservation as a shared responsibility.
“Protecting nature is not just the government’s job,” the spokesperson added. “It benefits everyone, including the business community.”
