The 2026 Tour de France, starting in Barcelona on Saturday, is bracing for possible stage cancellations as a dangerous heatwave sweeps across Europe. With temperatures expected to reach 44°C, race officials are closely monitoring the extreme weather.
“It’s very much on our mind,” said Thierry Gouvenou, the Tour’s technical director. “It’s not the first time we have faced this, but this time it’s worse because of what we have already experienced in May and June.”
The heat could affect the peloton as early as Sunday. Organizers are preparing for historic disruptions, as climate change continues to challenge one of the world’s most famous sporting events.
