Patients risk receiving the wrong treatment because of flaws in artificial intelligence tools used by doctors, according to a Norwegian directorate that checks the systems.
The agency says it finds major errors every time it reviews the AI tools. The mistakes could lead to incorrect diagnoses or prescriptions.
The warning comes as more clinics adopt AI to help with tasks like reading medical images or suggesting treatments. Regulators are struggling to keep up with the rapid rollout.
"We find large deviations every time," a directorate official said. The exact number of affected patients is not yet known.
The findings have raised concerns about patient safety. The directorate is now urging hospitals and clinics to test AI tools more carefully before using them on real patients.
