DOHA – U.S. President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner will meet with mediators in Qatar, not with Iranian officials, a Qatari government spokesman said on Tuesday.
Majid al-Ansari, a spokesman for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, said the American representatives will meet with mediators to “evaluate the course of negotiations.” The talks aim to assess progress in indirect discussions between Washington and Tehran.
Qatar has been a key intermediary between the United States and Iran. The announcement clarifies that the upcoming meeting in Doha will not involve direct U.S.-Iran contact.
