Romania's President Warns Nation Is Defenseless Against Foreign Disinformation

Romania lacks a real policy to defend against disinformation, its president has stated. This warning comes as the country remains a key target for foreign influence campaigns. President Nicusor Dan, elected in May, gave an interview to French newspaper *Le Monde*. He said Romania is on the front line against Russian interference due to its border with Ukraine. Such interference, he noted, was a direct factor in the cancellation of Romania's presidential election one year ago. The vote was postponed following a major cyber and disinformation attack linked to Russian sources. In the interview, President Dan also discussed differing approaches between Europe and the United States regarding the war in Ukraine. He emphasized the urgent need for Romania to build official defenses against false information designed to manipulate politics and public opinion.
