Iran and Oman held their first joint committee meeting in Muscat on Thursday to discuss the future management of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical sea passageway for global oil shipments. Iran’s deputy foreign minister and an Omani ambassador-at-large led the talks. The meeting focused on coordinating the two countries’ positions regarding the strait’s security and navigation. The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf to the open ocean. About one-fifth of the world’s oil passes through it daily. Officials said the new committee aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and ensure the waterway remains open and safe for maritime traffic. No specific agreements were announced following the meeting.
