Hong Kong cannot be faulted for lacking effort in the global artificial intelligence (AI) race. The government is pouring money into AI projects. In recent years, it has spent billions on new infrastructure. This includes HK$2.84 billion (US$364 million) for a semiconductor centre, HK$3 billion for an AI subsidy scheme, and HK$1 billion for an advanced AI research institute. In March, the government announced further funding.
