The United Nations says more than 50,000 people are missing after a series of earthquakes in Venezuela. Tom Fletcher, the UN’s emergency relief chief, told AFP that the death toll is likely to rise significantly. He described the rescue and recovery effort as "very complex."
“We have over 50,000 missing and over 500 confirmed dead, so there is a huge task ahead of going through the rubble,” Fletcher said. The UN is coordinating with local authorities to manage the crisis.
