Trump Threatens 100% Tariff on Countries with Digital Services Tax

US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 100 percent tariff on imports from countries that levy a digital services tax on American companies. The tax is a special charge that some nations place on the earnings of large multinational technology firms. "These tariffs will override any trade agreements made with that country, whether they are in effect, signed, or not," Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social. Britain introduced a 2 percent digital services tax in 2020 on revenue from social media platforms, search engines, and online marketplaces that generate value from British users. Other countries, including France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Denmark, Hungary, Poland, and Portugal, have also adopted similar taxes, though these mainly apply to online advertising.
