President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that his government is working on a legal framework for the dissolution of the PKK militant group. He stated the proposal will be presented to parliament "shortly" without delay.
Speaking on the matter, Erdogan said, "If a new 'Spirit of Yenikapi' is being sought, the ground on which it must take shape is the 'Terror-Free Turkey' process." The "Spirit of Yenikapi" refers to a past period of political unity and reconciliation in Turkey.
The move signals a potential shift in policy toward the Kurdish conflict. The PKK is designated a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States, and the European Union.
