A Chinese couple has been arrested for fabricating a car accident to claim insurance money, after the man accidentally injured his girlfriend during a prank.
The man, surnamed Wang, and his girlfriend, surnamed Lan, are from Panzhihua in Sichuan province. According to Hongxing News, the pair had a long-term relationship marked by frequent arguments.
In June 2024, while playing outside a relative’s home, Wang accidentally broke a bone in Lan’s chest during a prank. To cover the medical costs, they devised a plan to stage a traffic collision.
The couple falsely reported the injury as the result of a car crash to their insurance company. They subsequently filed a claim for a financial payout.
Police investigations later uncovered the fraud. Authorities have arrested both individuals, and the case remains under official review.
