US President Donald Trump on Tuesday insisted that Iran has agreed to the “highest level” of nuclear inspections, even as Iranian officials disputed his claim. The disagreement highlights how much remains contested, despite a tentative agreement.
“Despite their protestations and false statements to the contrary … Iran has fully and completely agreed to highest level Nuclear inspections long into the future (Infinity!!!),” Trump wrote on social media. He added that the deal would “insure ‘Nuclear Honesty.’”
Iranian officials have not confirmed the president’s account, and the terms of any inspection deal remain unclear. The exchange underscores ongoing tensions between the two countries over Iran’s nuclear program.
