Lithuania has declared a nationwide state of emergency. The government acted in response to a sharp increase in provocations from neighboring Belarus. Officials say Belarusian state services direct the activity. The declaration grants the army additional powers. Soldiers can now inspect vehicles and detain individuals for identity checks in border areas. They may also use force if necessary to stop illegal border crossings. The measures aim to strengthen border security and counter what Lithuania calls "hybrid warfare." This term describes using non-military tactics, like migration pressure, to destabilize another country. The state of emergency is initially set for one month.
