Recall: Wegmans Mixed Nuts in Nine States Pose Salmonella Risk

U.S. food safety officials have announced a recall of mixed nuts sold at Wegmans stores in nine states. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns the products may be contaminated with Salmonella. Mellace Family Brands, based in Ohio, produced the recalled nuts. The company distributes them to Wegmans locations in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and both Rhode Island and Connecticut. Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause serious infections. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. Young children, elderly adults, and people with weakened immune systems are at highest risk. Consumers should not eat the recalled products. They should return the nuts to any Wegmans store for a full refund. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall.
