Trump Permits Limited Nvidia AI Chip Sales to China
Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will allow the technology company Nvidia to sell some of its advanced artificial intelligence (AI) chips to China. The authorization applies only to Nvidia's H200 chips and only for sales to pre-approved customers in the country. However, Trump explicitly excluded Nvidia's newest and most powerful systems from the deal. The arrangement does not include the company's more advanced Blackwell AI platform or its upcoming Rubin system, which is expected to be released soon. The decision represents a controlled exception to broader U.S. restrictions on exporting high-end AI technology to China. These restrictions aim to prevent China's military from accessing cutting-edge computing power.
