Iran has agreed to allow United Nations nuclear inspectors back into the country as part of a broader agreement with the United States. The deal also includes Washington lifting sanctions on Iran’s oil exports and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for global oil shipments.
US Vice President JD Vance announced the agreement. Long-term independent monitoring of Iran’s nuclear program was effectively halted last summer after attacks by Israel and the US. Tehran stopped cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in response to strikes on its nuclear facilities. Iran says its nuclear program is for energy purposes only.
