A South African special court has ruled against a company and several officials in a corruption case involving school infrastructure. The case centers on a multi-million rand contract in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) province education department.
The Special Tribunal has instructed a company, Ithuba Lezandla Proprietary Limited, to repay over 7 million rand (approximately $370,000 USD). The funds are connected to a 2021 contract for emergency school repairs.
Furthermore, the tribunal mandated disciplinary action against 16 education department officials. The officials allegedly failed to follow proper procedures when awarding the contract.
The ruling emphasizes accountability for misuse of public funds intended for critical school services. The tribunal's orders are legally binding.
