GENEVA — The United States expects nuclear talks with Iran to continue through the night in Switzerland, a US diplomat told reporters early Monday, as negotiators seek a permanent end to the Middle East conflict.
The current round of negotiations got off to a rocky start. Iran’s delegation walked out in response to US President Donald Trump’s threats to strike Iran over its support for the militant group Hezbollah on Sunday.
A US diplomat at the Swiss venue said the Iranian delegation was involved in “robust” discussions before the walkout. The diplomat did not confirm whether the talks had resumed as of early Monday.
The strain comes as tensions over Lebanon and the strategic Strait of Hormuz also weigh on the negotiations.
