Honduras Seeks Arrest of Former President After U.S. Release

Honduran authorities have issued an arrest warrant for former President Juan Orlando Hernández. The Attorney General's office has formally requested that Interpol detain him.
Hernández was released from a United States prison last week. He had been serving a sentence there following a conviction on drug trafficking charges.
The new warrant opens a potential legal path for his return to Honduras. Officials there are seeking to prosecute him on separate, domestic charges.
The international police agency, Interpol, can now circulate a "red notice" to its member countries. This notice asks police worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a fugitive.
